Multiple forms of membrane-bound beta-glucosidase in human leucocytes.

چکیده
insulin has been suggested by Cuatrecasas & Illiano (197 1) on the basis of neuraminidase treatment of adipose-tissue cells. Enzymic digestion was reported to have no effect on the total quantity of insulin receptor in the membranes or on the affinity of the receptor for insulin, but abolished the effect of insulin on glucose transport and on lipolysis. As shown in Fig. 1, neuraminidase action inhibits the observed insulin effects on chick erythrocyte mobility, and this would be consistent with the suggestion of a dissociation of the electrophoretic effects and receptor-binding properties of the molecule.

beta-Glucoside hydrolase activity of normal and glucosylceramidotic cultured human skin fibroblasts.
Cultured human skin fibroblasts from normal and glucosylceramidotic subjects are found to contain one beta-glucoside hydrolase as compared with multiple enzymes in other tissues. The fibroblast enzyme has an approximate molecular weight of 150,000 under isotonic conditions, as determined by gel filtration. It occurs as a large aggregate at low ionic strength. Ceramide, 4-methylumbelliferyl, and...

1. Highly sensitive technique are described for the assay of plasma membrane (5'-nucleotidase, alkaline phosphatase), microsomal (neutral alpha-glucosidase, leucyl-2-naphthylamidase) and biliary canalicular (gamma-glutamyltransferase) enzymes and for nine acid hydrolases (acid phosphatase, phosphodiesterase, beta-glucosidase, alpha-glucosidase, alpha-galactosidase, beta-galactosidase, alpha-man...
متن کاملLysosomal enzymes in Dictyostelium discoideum are transported to lysosomes at distinctly different rates
We are investigating the molecular mechanisms involved in the localization of lysosomal enzymes in Dictyostelium discoideum, an organism that lacks any detectable mannose-6-phosphate receptors. The lysosomal enzymes alpha-mannosidase and beta-glucosidase are both initially synthesized as precursor polypeptides that are proteolytically processed to mature forms and deposited in lysosomes. Time c...
متن کاملAcid glycosidases in the isthmus of the hen oviduct and egg shell membranes.
Specific activities of seven acid glycosidases: beta-hexosaminidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, alpha- and beta-mannosidase, alpha-glucosidase and alpha-fucosidase were determined in various parts of the domestic hen oviduct (infundibulum, isthmus, shell gland and vagina). The activity of most enzymes was the highest in the isthmus. Multiple forms of all acid glycosidases from the isthmus w...
متن کاملDifferential effects on the cyanogenic glycoside content of fermenting cassava root pulp by beta-glucosidase and microbial activities.
The degradation of cyanogenic glycosides was studied in spontaneously fermenting cassava root pulp and in fresh pulp samples pretreated to prevent either endogenous beta-glycosidase activity, fermentation, or both. The rate of disappearance of the glycosides, as measured by hydrocyanic acid (HCN) production in situ, in membrane-sterilised media or in samples containing 1% sodium iodoacetate, wa...
